Problem Statement:

Analysts and Regional Marketers are unable to produce maps with current tools that achieve a professional and modern look and feel. Tools require lots of post-production, additional manipulation, lots of rework and generally are very complicated to work with because they were designed for a more technical audience.

My Role:

Lead Designer and for the first time, also the Product Manager! I’m very excited to get closer to the business side of things and ensure that features are matched to a business need.

Evaluation:

We are evaluating a couple of vendors. One is kind of a complete platform. It would require less development effort, but is more expensive. The other is more customized solution, which would require more development effort, but is cheaper and we can make it exactly how we want to make it.

EXTREMEMLY Low-fi Mockup:

In this mockup, after working with users to understand the process of generating maps using our current tools, I have been building out the process by which they are able to accomplish their goals. The left navigation pane is congruent with their current process steps.

User Research:

I conducted 11 interviews with users of various functions within Sales and Marketing. Each user brought a unique perspective to how better mapping tools could improve their job and by extension, their daily lives.

I and another two product managers I work with collected hundreds of stickies and synthesized them into 7 broad categories.

Proof of Concept Completion:

We wrapped up the proof of concept successfully. I designed and product managed it through this stage and now that we are going to production, I can focus exclusively on the design.
