Product Background:

This application is a continuation of the work I did during the proof of concept phase. It’s exciting to lead a 0-1 project and build something completely new.

My Role:

Lead Designer

Problem Exploration:

Users have described their current mapping application output as “boring”, “uninspiring”, and “not-compelling.” I will change that perception with the new mapping application and bring much needed modern aesthetics to the mapping visuals that these users are creating for airline customers.

We have performed a ton of research previously, as part of the Proof of Concept phase, but the research will continue.

Approach:

The proof of concept ended with some very low-fidelity mockups and a rough web app. I am now currently working on mid-to high fidelity designs in Figma. We’re using Material as the foundation component library and design system.

It’s looking pretty good and we have usability tests coming up. This will continue to inform my design direction.

App name:

The most important part of any new product is naming the product. I’m kidding! But it’s a fun part to think about and I like brainstorming for them.

Wireframes:

I produced some simple wireframes to show how the app could function for a day-to-day user. Major structures include controls, work area and work items.

This is an early wireframe showing the major structures and work areas of the application.

Mid Fidelity mockups:

I’m currently going through some simple usability tests using a clickable prototype I built in Figma using some slight variations of this mockup.

This is the main working space of the application. Which is still a work in progress! I’m designing for several personas who have all indicated they want better looking maps to tell their value proposition stories. Obvs this helps the business too. You know, winning new business and stuff.
